Hear from the social dialogue grapevine
Yes, you need to hear straight from the horses mouth. The people who are successfully doing what you are hoping to do in the future, that is. After all, only they can provide you with personal insight on what it is actually like to work in that particular industry day-to-day, what doubts and challenges they may have had to overcome and why they might say “come join us” or “run now!” Social platforms provide a unique opportunity to join real-world conversation, ask questions and learn about what you’re looking to do.
“Ask Anything” on Reddit and Quora
You can post questions or jump into conversations in progress here. Either way, the goal is to find experts, people with the same job titles or industry leaders and chat with them. For example, we might ask others what advice they have for someone wanting to take a leap out of the marketing field into the tech industry. What, if any, regrets they have about their career choice. Jump in, and do not forget to keep your profiles updated to improve what content shows up in your feed and to let others know who you are.
